Potential Artist Names

1. Narwhal Club

A lot of artists within my genre include animals in their name - Arctic Monkeys, Deerhunter, Foals, Tigers That Talked etc. Furthermore, the Arctic is usually associated with bleakness and solitude, which are themes that are linked with my genre. Also, a lot of artists within my genre use the term 'club' in their name - Bombay Bicycle Club, Chapel Club etc - to suggest that their fans belong to a select group and that there is a close connection between the band and the fans.
'Narwhal' means "corpse whale", and therefore has quite morbid and melancholic connotations, which again ties in with the feel of the genre.

2. Lost Souls

This name conforms to the idea of Indie music being for "the outsider" as well as incorporating religious connotations through the use of the word 'souls' (a lot of artists' names within the Indie genre have religious connotations e.g. Chapel Club, The Maccabees).

3. The Concrete Lilies

The lily is seen to symbolise purity and innocence, as well as high eroticism and death. This adheres to the sometimes ambiguous mystery of Indie music. Additionally, the sexual connotations coupled with the morbid symbolism suggests a dark sexuality, as well as perhaps a more pessimistic view towards sex. This can be found in Indie bands of the past such as The Smiths and Suede. This ties in with Foucault's theory of sexuality as dangerous, but it also goes against the idea expressed in Foucault's theory that sex is seen as something that should not be discussed, therefore conforming to the idea of the Indie genre as rebellious.
Concrete is a rigid and tough substance, and it can be linked to the working-class roots of Indie bands because of the 'tough' surroundings they grew up in.
